Best Wall Safe: Hidden Storage That's Hard to Find
The job of a wall safe is simple: hide your valuables in plain sight and survive the first five minutes of a break-in. Pry resistance. The fireproof 25.6-inch model has a recessed door that gives a crowbar almost nothing to grip. The budget quick-access unit has a door gap you could slip a credit card into. My crowbar test widened that gap by a quarter-inch. That's a fail.
Capacity. The 31.49-inch biometric model holds a laptop, a handgun, and a stack of documents. The quick-access unit fits a passport and a few envelopes. Know what you're storing before you choose.
Best Overall: In-Wall Safe with Keypad
This is the one I'd put my own birth certificate in. The cavity is 14.5 inches wide, 5.5 inches deep, and 14 inches tall, which sounds small until you realize a wall cavity is a wall cavity. I fit a shoebox of cash, a tablet, and a folder of deeds in there with room to spare.
The keypad is responsive, the backup keys are reinforced steel instead of the bent-able toys I see on cheaper units, and the door has a solid deadbolt that engages on both sides.
The beeper is loud. Multiple buyers mention it. I understand why they complain, but I'll take a beep over silence if someone's opening my safe while I'm in the next room. The install took me 40 minutes, including the anchor bolts that go through the pre-drilled holes in the back.
Sink those suckers into the studs, not the drywall. This safe weighs 47 pounds, and if you don't anchor it, a thief can rip the whole thing out of the wall and carry it off.

If you care about how your safe looks behind a picture frame, this is the one. If you care about cubic inches per dollar, look elsewhere.

The white finish scuffs if you look at it wrong. I bumped it with a screwdriver during install and left a gray mark that wouldn't wipe off. Multiple buyers report the same thing. If you're installing it in a finished room, be careful. If you're installing it in a garage, buy a different color.
What else to consider
Quick Access Electronic Wall Safe is the budget pick at ~$70, but the shallow 4-inch depth means you're storing envelopes, not shoeboxes. The lock is pickable, and the door gap fails my crowbar test. It's fine for sticky fingers, not for a determined thief.
Should you buy the in-wall keypad safe?
If you want the best balance of security, capacity, and price, yes. At ~$85, it costs about five cents a day over five years. That's cheap insurance for a passport, a spare key, and the paperwork your family needs when you're gone.
Just bolt it in properly, tape the battery door as insurance, and don't store the backup key inside. I've seen that mistake a hundred times, and it always ends with a locksmith.
